Eight Crazy Nights

4 stars

It’s December and that means it’s time for Christmas movies, and tons of them!  This movie is one of my favorite because it has Adam Sandler in the movie.  Davey Stone (Adam Sandler) is a 33-year old party animal that finds himself in trouble with the law after cheating a Chinese waiter by not paying for his food.  For his sentence, Davey has to do community service as the assistant referee for the youth basketball team or go to jail.  Davey is thinking that this is going to be easy because he used to be a champ at playing youth basketball.  Until, he met Whitey Duvail (Adam Sandler) the very small elderly elf-like head referee.  Whitey will help anybody in need and he has been waiting 35 years to be acknowledged by the town.  One day they were at the gym, and a couple of guys from town challenged Davey and this boy Benjamin (stout) to play some ball.  The loser has to eat the fat guys jock strap.  It was cute because while they were playing, Davey was bonding with Benjamin and usually that never happens for him. When it was time for Benjamin to go home, his mom came and got him.  What Davey didn’t know is that Benjamin’s mom was his childhood girlfriend Jennifer, (Titone) and he was starting to fall in love with her again.  During the movie, I love it when the deers are always there for anyone that needs help.  This movie is a good Christmas movie to watch because it has many up and downs, romantic and sad parts and parts that make you smile.  The mismatch between Whitey’s good heart and Davey’s constant troublemaking soon have them both wondering if going to jail would have been easier.  The ending of the movie is the best part and you need to watch it!

Due Date

5 stars
Due date was a hilarious movie to watch with your friends.  Perter Highman (Robert Downey) is in Atlanta on business.  He’s trying to get home to Los Angeles on time for the birth of his first child.  However, he gets kicked off the plane by accidentally switching bags with Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) because drugs were found in Peters bag.  Peter now is going on a road trip because he is on a no fly list.  Lets just say Ethan, Peter and Sunny, (the dog) had a crazy journey and will be talking about this journey for a long time.  The acting in this movie was great because the movie would have everybody in the theatre laughing through out the movie.  Due date did have its sad moments at times, but it gave a warm feeling to the movie.  Due date can make a horrible day go away in an instant.  My favorite parts of the film were when Ethan and Peter were getting high on there way back to Los Angeles and there having a great time.  That is until they drive up to the border of Mexico and everything goes horrible from there.  Ethan ran away and Peter had to talk to the officers inside this building on wheels.  Ethan attached this building to the officers truck and drove away very fast, being chased by tons of cops.  I was laughing so hard at this part, my stomach was hurting.  The worst part was when Ethan got so excited about almost being back that he puked all over Peter.  If you want to see a funny comedy, this would be the movie to go see!

Paranormal Activity 2

5 stars
Instead of beginning where the first film left off, we start several months earlier.  We are introduced to a family that is bringing home an infant named Hunter for the first time.  Their home got destroyed a few days later but nothing valuable was missing or stolen.  Daniel, (Brian Boland) and Christe, ( Sprague Grayden) hired experts to install security cameras throughout the house to keep an eye on events.  Bizarre events start to happen at night, but the family tries to keep their sanity together.  Christe and Daniel went out one night and left their daughter Ali, (Molly Ephraim) to babysit Hunter till they get back.  A few hours went by and this “bang” sound happened outside the front door while Ali is walking up the stairs.  She went to go check to see what it was or who it was.  As she steps outside to check it out, the door slams behind her and locks her out.  That part of the movie was freaky.  One of my favorite parts is when Christe is sitting in the kitchen reading something and you hear this loud sound.  The cabinets all slammed open at the same time.  It was crazy.  The family had a German shepherd that protected them.  This night was scary because somehow it looked like someone shoved the dog into something and the dog was really hurt.  So, Ali and Daniel took there dog to the hospital, leaving Christe all by herself in that house.  When Christe went to check on Hunter, she was dragged halfway down the stairs, but she got away from whatever it was.  When she made it to the top again, she got dragged down the stairs to the basement and the door slammed shut behind her.  To find out what happens at the end, you’ve got to watch this paranormal movie.  This movie gives you the midnight willies.

Jonah Hex

3 stars
Jonah Hex (John Brolin) is a disfigured gun man who travels the old west seeking revenge on Quentin Turnball, (John Malkovich) the man who killed his entire family.  This movie centers on the quest to find and stop Turnball from unleashing Hell on Earth on Independence Day.  President Grant wanted Hex to find Turnball to bring him to justice, and that was a bet that Hex couldn’t turn down.  After Turnball killed Jonah’s family, he left him tied up for days on these branches.  The Indians found Jonah Hex and saved him.  That day his sprit crossed over and gave him powers that cannot be explained.  I liked the part in the movie when Hex was at the bar and a guy came up to him and said, “What happened to your face?”  He shot the guy at the bar and said, “ I cut myself shaving” what happened to yours?  It was cool when Hex could make dead people alive.  When he talked to the dead they would wake up, but would start to burn to death until he would put dirt on them.  The dirt likes the dead.  He came back to visit Lilah (Megan Fox) who he cared about.  He didn’t want Lilah to get close to him tho, because everyone that gets close to Hex dies.  There’s one part in the movie that some guy says he owns Lilah, so she shot him and said, “I’m not much for being owned.”  I loved it when Jonah Hex was traveling with his horse and dog, the dog followed him side by side.  They would help him with his troubles or whenever he needed help.  Turnball was planning to wipe out the entire nation on Independence Day, so lets watch and see if Hex gets to him in time?

Freedom Writers

5 stars

Based on a true story
Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank) is a first time teacher who wants to make a difference.  She is an English Teacher at Woodrow High School and at first, has no idea what she is getting into.  Her students are divided along racial lines, gang members and separate tribes.  Everyone does not get along with each other in the class room.  One day there was a piece of paper going around in class with a drawing of a person on it.  Everybody was laughing until the picture came to the person who it was.  You know how most teachers take the paper and throw it into there desk.  Well, Erin took the paper and asked, who drew this?  She started to talk about the Jews and how there gangs were legit.  I liked that part a lot because in that moment she started to learn more about the problems they face and what they have to go through everyday.  They fight for there pride and respect.  Erin brought journals for her students to write in.  She told them that they can write whatever they want and that she is not going to read them.  However, if they want her to read them, they can put the Journals on this shelf that she has in her classroom and she can read them.  I love this movie because it shows how any race can come together and become a family.  When her students become Juniors and Seniors, Erin would have to teach a different batch of kids.  Erin’s students did not take that very well because they been through a lot with each other and wanted to stay together throughout High School.  Watch this movie and find out if she gets her kids or not?

It's Kinda of a Funny Story

5 stars

A 16 year-old Craig (Keir Gilchrist) checks himself into a hospital for being suicidal.  He voluntarily admits himself into the psych ward.  The youth ward was temporarily closed for construction so he’s stuck in the Adult ward.  He soon realizes that he does not want to be there anymore because he has school the next day.  The psychiatrist (Viola Davis) says that he has to be in the ward for five days.  Along the way, Craig gets a new start and makes a great friendship.  In the group session, Bobby (Zach Gilifiankis) was freaking out about some interview that he has on Thursday, he doesn’t have a different shirt to wear.  Craig volunteered and said he would call his dad to get one of his shirts for Bobby.  I liked that part a lot because it reminded me of something I would have done.  Has anyone ever played the question game?  Well, Noelle (Emma Roberts) asked Craig to meet him in some hallway to hang out.  They played the question game because it’s a fun way to get to know someone.  The Question game is where you keep asking questions and always have to end with a question.  My favorite part of the movie was when Bobby helped Craig to get over his fear of rejection.  Bobby acted like he was a girl and Craig had to talk to Bobby as if he was going to ask a girl on a date.  I think the psych ward helped Craig cope with everyday teenage problems.  You have got to see the ending for sure!

Get Him to the Greek

4 stars

A record company intern, Aaron Green, (Jonah Hill) is hired to get a crazy and out of control British Rockstar, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to a concert at an L.A. Greek theater in 72 hours. Along the way back to L.A., Aldous wants to get crazy and party all night before they need to get on the plane for an interview on the Today Show.  Aldous and Aaron Green are opposite people, and I like how it shows that you shouldn’t judge a person by the way they act or look.  They became good friends on there long journey together.  In the limo rushing to get to the Today Show, Aaron's boss calls him up and tells him to keep Aldous sober for the show.  Aaron has to take Aldous drugs, whiskey, and other alcohol drinks.  It was hilarious watching Aaron try to keep his cool at the Today Show while he had puke on his shirt.  This was the best part of the movie.  They would change the camera view every time they got intoxicated so you can have the full effect.  Their were many different actors playing themselves in this movie.  It was interesting to watch them be themselves.  Russell Brand played a similar character in this movie as he played in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  Through out the whole movie my stomach was hurting badly from laughing so hard.  If you want a good laugh this would be the movie to watch with your family and friends.  If you have little kids tho, do not watch this movie.  Now, you need to find out if they made it back to the Greek theater or if they got caught up in the party life!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Have you ever been in a relationship were you think everything is going awesome? Then “BAM!” out of nowhere the world ends it and feels like he or she ripped your heart out. Threw it on the ground and then stomped on it. Well, in this movie that is how peter, (Jason Segel) felt. I love how it shows that Peter takes the break up very bad and cries every night. Usually in movies, it’s the girls that cry and not the guys because they think they are big, bad and tuff. Peter goes away to Hawaii to cheer himself up. Well he runs into his ex, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) at the same hotel where he was staying. Sarah is there with her new, famous boyfriend, Aldous, (Russel Brand). Now how awkward would that be! I’m sure we have all been in some sort of the same situation, and just wanted to say something mean to our ex’s. The counter girl at the hotel, Rachel (Mila Kunis) saved his ass. In this movie, I like how it shows that sometimes, if you just wait for the person that you liked or loved, you might be wasting your time. There are other fishes to catch in the pond. Also, you never know what you have till it’s gone. Peter took Rachel to dinner and then saw Sarah and Aldous at the same restaurant. So, Aldous invites them to eat with them for dinner. I mean, would anybody really want to sit with their ex at dinner, with their date! Well, these crazy people tried it out and lets just say they drank a lot of wine.

The Switch

Have you ever had one of those Best Friends, that when you’re hurt, you can just talk to them or go see movies or get something to eat?   Having someone you can ramble on to about your life to and not be afraid that you said something embarrassing or wrong, just someone you can be yourself around.  Just a Best Friend that you are very close to. What if you have feelings for that friend who is the opposite gender and do not know how to bring up the fact that you want to be more than friends?  Well, Kassie, (Jennifer Aniston) puts Wally, (Jason Bateman) in the friend zone.  I like how it shows in this movie that you can’t have what you want, unless you try your best.  She tells him that she is pregnant, well not yet, but that she is searching for the right guy to get sperm to inseminate a pregnancy.  She invited him to her sperm party.   Have you ever been to a party where you felt awkward and did not know how to make a conversation?  Well, Wally felt that way at the party, and when he went to the bathroom, he was wasted.  He saw the sperm in the donor cup on the shelf and he picked it up.  He was messing with it by the sink, and someone knocked on the door and he spilled the sperm in the sink.  I like how this movie shows that people can get caught up in different situations, where you know you did something wrong and have no idea how to fix it.

The Last Song

In this movie Miley Cyrus (Ronnie) is more free spirited and has an edgy side to her.  Everyone will notice right away because we’re used to her having a more preppy side to her.  Well, Ronnie and her little brother (Jonah) come to visit their dad for the summer.  After their parents got a divorce, Ronnie blamed her Dad and would try to prove a point to her dad.  But in the long run, she was just hurting herself.  Many teenagers that experience divorce will either put the blame on one parent or both.  I love how this movie shows you are only hurting yourself and how much love can reconnect or bring a family back together.  Even when you’re apart from the people you love, it does not mean you love them any less.  It just means you love them even more.  It shows that you can make mistakes and no one is perfect.  I also love how this movie shows that you can fall in love with someone that seems totally out or your league, and still be very happy, because really thats all that matters in life.  Everyone knows love is never perfect, and in many movies it only shows relationships without many real problems.  Well, in this love story it shows the love parts, the ups and downs, the love of a family, and how much closer a family can get when everyone tries to understand each other.

Tells you more about the movie

Extraordinary Measures

Inspired by a true story, Brendan Fraser and Keri Russel star as John and Alieen Crowley.  These two parents risk everything they have to save their two children's lives because they have pompe.  The doctor says they can usually live up to nine years old and after that they will start getting very weak.  Also the doctor said that he wishes that he could help but there is no medicine or cure for this fatal disease.  So John, the dad, started searching and looking for a cure for the fatal pompe disease because he wants to try and save his kids.  His daughter was in really bad shape in the hospital and the doctors didn’t know if she was going to make it or not.  The next day the doctor said he has never seen anyone fight as hard as she did to live.  When John looked into his daughters eyes, he knew he would do anything to save her and his sons lives.   John did a lot of research and made a lot of calls and found a scientist Dr. Robert Stonehill that had a theory about pompe.  He believed he couldn’t cure his children but could save there lives.  John pushes the scientist and a company to find a cure for his two young children.  Some times in the movie John and Dr. Stonehill would get annoyed with each other because of the fight against time to get the needed drug approved.  This is a good movie that shows how much families would do for there children.  Don’t hope for a miracle, make one!  How far would you go to save your kids lives?
